How Valdle Was Created
Background
Valdle was created by a few college students during Citrus Hack 2023. The team had limited web development experience but wanted to combine Wordle's gameplay mechanics with Valorant map knowledge. The team consisted of a bunch of gamers who played loldle and wanted the same thing to exist for Valorant since there were no games like it at the time.
Development Process
The initial prototype was built during the 24-hour hackathon using basic web technologies. The core concept was to show players a location on a Valorant map and challenge them to identify where they are.
Technical Stack
The team used:
- Frontend: HTML/CSS for the interface and JavaScript for gameplay
- Backend: Python with Flask for server-side logic
- Data: Some manual data collection from the valdle team such as the map pictures and use of the Valorant API for things like agents and weapon info
Hackathon Results
The team successfully created a working "guess the map" gamemode within the hackathon deadline and received recognition at Citrus Hack 2023.
Post-Hackathon Development
After the hackathon, the team continued development for several months to refine the gameplay, fix bugs, and add features before the public launch. The game gained traction within the Valorant community.
Ongoing Development
Despite team members becoming busy with jobs and school, the group has slowly continued maintaining and developing Valdle. They have gradually added new game modes and implemented updates to improve the user experience. The team has been encouraged by the dedicated community that has formed around the game, with many players returning daily to test their Valorant knowledge.
Current Status
Currently, one team member primarily maintains the website while others contribute when possible. While development pace has slowed due to other commitments, the positive response from the community continues to motivate ongoing improvements and feature additions. Have a request?
